Statement:
Agnes Rathonyi Paint/Oil From Ontario, Canada Artist of the Month for May 2002 What did you like best about the One of a Kind Show and Sale 2001? I read in a wonderful book, The Best of Success, a quote from Wynn Davis, "The power to hold on in spite of everything, the power to endure - this is the winner's quality. Persistence is the ability to face defeat again and again without giving up „ to push on in the face of great difficulty, knowing that victory can be yours. Persistence means taking pains to overcome every obstacle, and to do what's necessary to reach your goals." To reach my goals and my dreams, I happened to be in the right place, at the right time, with the right people. The right people are the One of a Kind Show and Sale's organizers from Chicago and Toronto. The "winners" who showed me the highest level of professionalism and helped me to blend in with their unbelievably strong business strategies are the organizers of the Shows. After exhibiting with the show in Toronto four times, today I can say that they turned my life upside down, but in an extremely good way. When I become a famous artists, and I will be, I would still like to come back to exhibit with the Shows, because without them, I would be far from the life and the fast growing success that I have today. What interested you to become an artist? I have no doubt that God gave me the challenge to be born to be an artist, and give people joy through my paintings. I was 6 years old when I found paint in my grandmother's home. With that paint, I painted a rooster on the side of the house. I will never forget the reaction of my family when they saw the painting and how much they liked it. That was my very first piece of artwork and it may still be there today. That was when I decided I wanted to be an artist. How long have you been an artist? I have been an artist all my life. I felt like an artist and I lived like an artist. In Hungary, living from art is very difficult, but I followed my dreams. I have showed people the world's most beautiful elements through my paintings. Could you tell me in your own words what interested you about the One of a Kind Show and Sale to exhibit with us? The best way to explain it is I want to be with the successful people and the One of a Kind Show is definitely the best show that I have ever participated in. The aggressive promotions and advertising, all the effort, how the staff helped me with the prompt move-in and move-out, which can be difficult for the exhibitors. The staff helps make everything easier on the artists. The Show's selection is really serious when choosing the artists to exhibit to keep the Show at a higher level than other shows. During the Show, the organizers give attention to every little detail to make the event successful for every artist. It is just an amazing opportunity, and I would like to be a part of it for a long, long time. Could you tell me why you think your work is one-of-a-kind? My work is very unique in every way. The colors, the subjects, the compositions, the simplicity, and the technique I use to layer my painting's surfaces make them all unique. Everything is one-of-a-kind, and the most important thing is I love them very much. When clients come to my booth, I am 100% behind my paintings. I gain energy from my clients through their beautiful comments on my work and they gain energy from me when they bring my happiness to their home. What would be a one-of-a-kind experience for you? I want to open my first solo exhibition in New York on Madison Avenue. Then I want to invite the staff from the One of a Kind Show and Sale Chicago and the One of a Kind Show in Toronto and tell the whole world that these people gave me the chance to succeed.
